Spring Newsletter 2026

Dear Friend,

Spring is officially here with the equinox arriving on March 20. With the world in chaos and turmoil, welcoming spring feels both necessary and unreal. How do we hold both the nightmare and the beauty. But spring is here, and in Chinese medicine it brings hope and renewal. It is the season of new beginnings and growth. Despite the darkness in the world, spring brings a promise that the light will return to shine on all of us.

When a complex system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to shift the entire system to a higher order.

In Five Element Acupuncture, each season is related to an element and a new energy in the human body. Spring is the time of the Wood Element. It is a time of rebirth, when the world wakes from winter’s slumber and is reborn. The energy rises up and out of the ground with a strong, creative force, exemplified in the green sprouts that shoot up from the ground. This is an exciting time to make plans and take action on new ideas.

Spring is a time to change from the heavier diet of winter, to a lighter one with fresh greens and sprouts.  Dandelion greens, spinach and arugula are good to eat now, as well as fennel, scallions and chives.  All of these foods help cleanse the body and support the liver.  Exercise is also helpful in cleansing the liver.  This is a good time of year to renew your commitment to exercise.

Use the upward movement of spring’s energy to bring more life and love to the planet. Each of us matters in our individual gifts of love and affirming energy to lift all of us to a higher consciousness and make the world a better place.

Love,

Margaret
